The Elgin High School girls varsity soccer team won its third district match of the season Tuesday, Feb. 6 as the Lady Wildcats were victorious 2-0 at home over Bastrop High School.
Scorers for the Lady Wildcats were junior Dory Estrada and sophomore Lilliana Giron, while sophomore Abby Muñoz and Estrada assisted on the goals against the Lady Bears.
“Bastrop always offers us a very competitive and challenging game,” Elgin Head Coach Gabriela Johnson said. “All the girls played an outstanding game. Juliet Almazan played an excellent game with numerous saves, shutting down the Lady Bears every time.”
The Lady Wildcats now have regular-season victories this 2023-24 campaign over Manor High School, Victoria East High School, Pflugerville Connally High School, Cedar Creek High School and added No. 5 against the Bastrop Lady Bears.
Despite a 3-0 loss Feb. 9 at Pflugerville High School, Johnson is confident going forward and is eager for the rematch with the Lady Panthers.
“Pflugerville was very hard for us as they were very physical,” Johnson said. “We hope that we have a different outcome for the second round.”
Elgin (5-6-1 overall, 3-3 district record) is currently the No. 4 seed in 5A-District 23 behind Georgetown High School, Pflugerville Hendrickson High School and Georgetown East View High School. The Lady Wildcats are scheduled Feb. 13 to host Hendrickson and will remain at home Friday, Feb. 16 versus East View.
