BASTROP — Bastrop Independent School District renovations continue to run smoothly despite a few rain delays.

Director of Construction and Planning Lee Raspberry took to the podium during the last School Board Meeting to provide construction updates for the 2021 and 2023 bond projects.

“From a composite standpoint, all the projects are on schedule, some are even ahead of schedule. We’re not behind anywhere, even with some weather delays. Our partners are doing a wonderful job keeping us on schedule so that we can turnover these projects complete when we’re required to turn them over,” said Raspberry.

Ongoing renovations at Bastrop High School are roughly around 45% complete, on track for a tentative September 2024 deadline, according to Raspberry.

The project includes 42,895 square feet of new construction with 160,515 square feet of renovation. The entrance is seeing attention now and the new classroom wing “is doing well,” added the director. Revegetation has been spread across the new baseball field house area and the sports center is just waiting for a few gas inspections before everything is ready for play.

“If you have not seen the turf field, it is really something to see. They’ve done an outstanding job, the crews that worked on that at night and weekend to make up for weather delays,” said Raspberry.

Bastrop Intermediate and Cedar Creek Intermediate are both on schedule for an April 2024 deadline with similar renovations of over 5,000 square feet.

New 2023 bond projects are still in the early stages of development, including two elementary schools, a high school and a police and operations facility.

Land has been secured for Elementary School No. 9 with 105,000 square feet of construction in the design phase. Architect partners are looking for the board to have something to look at by April, according to Raspberry.

“We’re really excited about these two new elementary schools. These will be some great looking schools,” added Raspberry.

Cedar Creek High School is currently at the schematic design phase and the new 39,000-square-foot operations facility should start to break ground in a few months, coming to Lovers Lane by Bastrop ISD’s transportation center.

Raspberry has over 30 years of experience in construction and operations-driven roles and will continue to oversee the bond projects through their completion.
