SMITHVILLE — Smithville High School football team leaders are trying shake a few things up for next year’s campaign.

The Tigers applied for the University Interscholastic League’s biennial realignment, appealing to join 4A District 11 Division 2. The school appeared in front of the UIL Assignment Appeals Committee, Feb. 20. Varsity players went 3-7 this past season, finishing 5th in district 13.

If approved, Smithville players will be facing off against the likes of Caldwell, Giddings, La Grange, Madisonville, Sealy and Belville, who swept the division.

The move would not only change the Tiger’s competition, but would affect travel distance and time.
