Smithville softball has successful week

SMITHVILLE — The Smithville High School varsity softball team put together a strong first week as the Lady Tigers opened their 2024 campaign with multiple games.

After the Lady Tigers opened the season Feb. 13 with a 7-5 victory on the road at Pflugerville Hendrickson High School, Smithville competed Feb. 15-16 at the Rice Consolidated tournament and found more success.

Smithville had a 3-0-1 record in Altair as the Lady Tigers tied Van Vleck High School 5-5, knocked off Rosenberg Terry High School 11-8, routed Hempstead High School 13-1 and concluded with a 10-0 shutout win over Wallis Brazos High School.

Following a scheduled Feb. 20 non-district road game at Hallettsville High School, the Lady Tigers under Head Coach Wayne Otto will have their home opener Friday, Feb. 23 at 6 p.m. against Rice Consolidated High School.
