BASTROP — The Cedar Creek High School boys varsity basketball team concluded 5A-District 23 play on a high note Tuesday, Feb. 13, as the Eagles beat Pflugerville High School 54-49 in the regular-season finale.
The Eagles and Panthers were locked at 9-9 after the first quarter, Cedar Creek took a 26-21 lead at halftime, extended its lead over Pflugerville to 43-35 at the end of the third quarter and held on down the stretch.
Cedar Creek got another big game from senior standout Robert Conrad as he went off for a team-high 20 points, four rebounds, three assists and three steals. Eagles junior Phineas Koplin was also a major factor in the win as he had 13 points, a trio of three-pointers made and three rebounds.
Also scoring in double figures for Cedar Creek was senior Micah Mc-Donald with 11 points, three rebounds, two assists, two steals and one blocked shot. Eagles junior Kenji Franklin had a solid all-around game with eight points, nine rebounds, five assists and two blocks against Pflugerville.
Cedar Creek (24-10 overall, 9-5 in district play), under Head Coach Valentino Maxwell, is locked in as the No. 4 seed for the 5A playoffs and was scheduled Feb. 20 to take on Austin McCallum High School in the bi-district round at neutral site Pflugerville Weiss High School. The Eagles defeated the McCallum Knights 66-57 back in November during a tournament game hosted by Austin High School.
