BUDA — The Elgin High School girls varsity softball team competed last week at a tournament held in Buda and went 4-1 over three days.
ELGIN LADY WILDCATS 13, LEHMAN LADY LOBOS 4
Highlighted by a huge seven-run third inning, the Lady Wildcats surged to a 13-4 victory over Lehman High School. Emily Sumner drove in a teamhigh three runs, while Gabriella Sandoval and Jaelyn Barker had two RBI apiece. Jessica Cantrell struck out six batters in two innings pitched without no hits allowed in the win, while Sandoval had four strikeouts in two innings.
ELGIN LADY WILDCATS 5, TEMPLE TEM-CATS 2
Led by a three-run home run by Cantrell, Elgin got the job done in a 5-2 win against Temple High School. Cantrell also got the victory in the circle as she went 2.2 innings with four strikeouts and zero hits given up.
ELGIN LADY WILDCATS 9, LOCKHART LADY LIONS 7
Elgin got off to a fast start and was able to hold on for a 9-7 victory over Lockhart High School. The Lady Wildcats had two runs driven in apiece from Sandoval, Danielle King and Jaylan Roberson.
ELGIN LADY WILDCATS 4, LIBERTY HILL LADY PANTHERS 2
The Lady Wildcats ended their time in Buda on a high note as Elgin knocked off Liberty Hill High School 4-2. Mackenzie Farris drove in two runs, while Roberson and Sumner each had one RBI. Cantrell pitched her team to victory with seven strikeouts in five innings with two unearned runs allowed on one hit.
Elgin (7-5 overall record), under Head Coach Pete Moreno, will return home Friday, March 8 at 7 p.m. to host Pflugerville Connally High School.
