Despite a quick start and strong effort throughout, the Lady Wildcats came up short in their district opener March 5 as Elgin fell 8-5 to East View.

On the second pitch of the game, Bianca Galindo led off the game with a solo home run to left field to put Elgin quickly up 1-0. Jaylan Roberson would add to the lead with an RBI single, while Nadia Sagastume scored on a wild pitch to make it 3-0.

After the Lady Patriots tied the game 3-3, the Lady Wildcats would retake the lead in the top of the third inning as Roberson reached on an error and Mackenzie Farris came in to score.

However, East View would score five straight runs over the next two innings to go up 8-4. Farris added a solo home run in the top of the seventh inning to cut into the lead but the late rally was not enough.

Jessica Cantrell pitched for the Lady Wildcats and had nine strikeouts in 6.0 innings with just two walks issued and only three of her eight runs allowed were earned.

ELGIN LADY WILDCATS 15, CONNALLY LADY COUGARS 0

Elgin Head Coach Pete Moreno and his squad picked up their first district victory of the season in dominant fashion March 8 as the Lady Wildcats crushed Connally 15-0. The Lady Wildcats scored two runs in the first inning, three in the second frame, seven runs in the third inning and secured a run-rule victory in the fourth frame with three more runs.

Farris led the way on offense for Elgin as she went 3-for-4 at the plate with a team-high five runs batted in, while the trio of Roberson, Galindo and Danielle King had two RBI apiece. Gabriella Sandoval and Canrell also drove in one run each for the Lady Wildcats.

Cantrell picked up the victory for Elgin as she pitched 2.0 innings and struck out six of the seven batters she faced, while Sandoval pitched 2.0 innings in relief with three strikeouts in the shutout win over the Lady Cougars.

Following a 10-0 loss Monday at Georgetown High School, the Lady Wildcats (8-7 overall, 1-2 in district play) were scheduled March 12 to host Cedar Creek High School.
