BASTROP — Space pioneer Elon Musk has given locals and his workers at the Bastrop-based Boring Company a new spot to relax at, play some games and grab a few drinks.
Prufrock Pub is the latest addition to Hyperloop Plaza, a center at 865 Farm to Market 1209 amidst the massive tunneling company’s site. This is the third addition for the complex, following the Boring Bodega that launched in November.
“It’s kind of easy for us to move from project to project because we use the same team of contractors. We try to go local when we can, too,” said a pub worker, who wished to remain anonymous because of Musk’s strict “no press” policy.
Alongside a parking lot full of Tesla electric cars, the plaza features a playground, pickleball court and food truck station. Inside, the space opens up with plenty of tables and entertainment to settle in at after grabbing a drink from the bar.
Prufrock Pub currently only serves beer and wine, awaiting approval for its liquor license. The neighboring bodega also sports a wider selection of local beers that patrons can choose to purchase and open atop the marble and hardwood bar top.
While the flow of customers mostly comes from Boring Company workers leaving work, county residents have been making the trip in greater numbers recently, according to the worker.
“It’s fun here, the people that come in are great,” they added.
Walls inside the bar complex are lined with space-themed pictures, televisions and Musk’s unique sense of interior design, including a mounted flamethrower and podiums supporting a lone white brick and “burnt hair” perfume.
Seats come to be filled with rocket scientists and construction workers alike, many of which choose to spend their breaks enjoying the venue’s menu of games. A ping pong table, pool table and cornhole range are set up next to a video game station, complete with multiple arcade consoles and lounge chairs.
The plaza and pub continue to grow with new additions, taking recommendations from a communal suggestion board. A basketball court and yoga classes are next up on the roster.
Workers claim that weekends are the best time to join in on the action and meet some of Musk’s new characters flooding into the district.
