BASTROP — The Bastrop High School varsity softball team got back in the win column Friday, March 28 as the Lady Bears picked up a 7-0 shutout victory at home over Pflugerville High School.

The Lady Bears got on the board early and often with three runs in the first inning, two more in the second frame and two more runs in the third inning to go up 7-0 over the visiting Lady Panthers.

Bastrop was led at the plate by Bailey Merritt as she went 2-for-4 with a team-high three runs batted in, while Laicey Sullivent walked three times and had an RBI of her own. Elayna Coy and Jessa Clay finished with two hits each on the night for the Lady Bears.

In the circle, it was a dominant effort for Abby Abraham after she led Bastrop in a complete-game shutout with seven innings pitched, 12 strikeouts, only four hits allowed and just two walks issued to Pflugerville batters.

Bastrop (12-10 overall, 4-4 district record), under Head Coach Teresa Morgan, were on the road against Pflugerville Hendrickson High School April 2, and return home Friday, April 5 at 7 p.m. hosting Georgetown East View High School. The Lady Bears are in the thick of the 5A-District 24 playoff race and won the initial matchup 4-2 with Hendrickson and fell 9-4 in the first meeting with East View.
