SMITHVILLE – The Smithville High School varsity softball team picked up two 4A-District 22 victories this past week as the Lady Tigers won easily on the road at Manor New Tech High School and had a walk-off victory at home over Taylor High School.

SMITHVILLE — The Smithville High School varsity softball team picked up two 4A-District 22 victories this past week as the Lady Tigers won easily on the road at Manor New Tech High School and had a walk-off victory at home over Taylor High School.

SMITHVILLE LADY TIGERS 20, NEW TECH LADY TITANS 0

The Lady Tigers made quick work of erratic New Tech pitching March 25 as Smithville took advantage of 19 walks issued by the Lady Titans in a 20-0 rout.

Smithville scored four runs in the first inning, added one in the second frame, six more in the third inning and nine runs in the top of the fourth frame.

The Lady Tigers were led by a team-high three runs batted in by Raini Stanley, while Kenzly White and Kenna Tiner drove in two runs each. Smithville also got one RBI apiece from Addison Otto, Claire Kennon, Brityn Roberts, Raven Stanley and Dakota Young.

Otto was dominant in the circle as she pitched four innings with seven strikeouts, one hit allowed, one walk issued and zero runs given up.

SMITHVILLE LADY TIGERS 4, TAYLOR LADY DUCKS 3

The Lady Tigers won 4-3 in walk-off fashion Feb. 28 in a 4-3 victory over the visiting Taylor Lady Ducks.

Smithville got on the board first in the bottom of the second inning on an RBI groundout by Kayden Wilde that scored Roberts to go up 1-0. After Taylor tied it 1-1, Otto drove in a run in the third frame to make it 2-1.

With the score tied 3-3 in the bottom of the seventh inning, Otto was the hero as he RBI single scored Young for the walk-off victory. Otto also pitched a complete game with seven innings pitched, seven strikeouts and just one walk issued.

Smithville (12-8-3 overall, 3-2 district record), under Head Coach Wayne Otto, hosted Giddings High School, and remain home Saturday, April 6 at 10 a.m. versus rival La Grange High School.
