Bears knock off East View

Bears knock off East View

BASTROP — The Bastrop High School varsity baseball team ended play last week on a solid note Thursday, March 28 as the Bears won 5-2 at home over Georgetown East View High School.
Following a close 3-1 loss March 26 on the road at East View, the Bears took care of business to split the series with the Patriots.

After East View took an early 1-0 lead, Bastrop’s offense struck in the bottom of the first inning as an RBI groundout by John Dawson scored Ben Vaquera and a sacrifice fly by Bob Gorman brought home Isaiah Rivas for a 2-1 lead.

The Bears added two more insurance runs in the bottom of the third frame as a two-run single by Braden Davenport scored both Rivas and Dawson to pad the lead to 4-1. Bastrop was able to add one more run in the bottom of the sixth inning as Vaquera reached on an error and Francisco Arriaga scored to make it 5-1. Although the Patriots inched closer with a run in the top of the seventh, the Bears preserved the win.

Val Regalado picked up the victory for Bastrop as he pitched five innings with eight strikeouts and just one unearned run, while Sam Abraham threw the final two innings in relief and had four strikeouts of his own.

Bastrop (8-15 overall, 3-3 district record), under Head Coach Daniel Carrillo, remains in the thick of a tight 5A-District 23 playoff race. The Bears were scheduled April 2 to host Pflugerville Connally High School and will travel Friday, April 5 at 7 p.m. for a road rematch with the Cougars.
