ELGIN WILDCATS 13, CEDAR CREEK EAGLES 0

Everything clicked for the Wildcats last Tuesday as Elgin put together a complete effort with a 13-0 road win against the Eagles that was spearheaded by a pair of four-run innings.

On the mound, Jack Grames pitched five innings in the run-rule shutout victory and had seven strikeouts, allowed just two hits and only walked one Cedar Creek batter.

The Elgin trio of Nathen Lewis, Malakai Hibbs and Cason Nalle led the way at the plate as they each finished with two runs batted in on two hits apiece. Austin Miller was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate and scored three runs, while Alex Gamez and Tyson McFarlin had one RBI each.

In a game dominated by strong pitching from both teams, Elgin got just enough on offense April 5 as the host Wildcats held on for a 2-0 victory over Cedar Creek.

Lewis got the Wildcats on the board in the bottom of the second inning as his RBI double brought home Jalen Owens to make it 1-0. The Wildcats would eventually get one more insurance run in the sixth frame as Miller scored on a wild pitch.

After Owens pitched the first two scoreless innings with two strikeouts, Lewis took the mound in relief and held the Eagles’ offense in check as he pitched five innings with six strikeouts, two hits allowed and only one walk issued.

Despite the loss for Cedar Creek, pitcher Joel Ornelas had a strong outing in six innings on the mound with six strikeouts and zero walks issued.

Elgin (10-14 overall, 5-3 district record), under Head Coach Jason Bourgeois, started the week at home versus Bastrop High School and will be on the road Friday, April 12 at 7 p.m. in a rematch with the Bears. Cedar Creek (14-10 overall, 3-5 district record), under Head Coach Brett Hoffman, began its series away Tuesday with district frontrunner Georgetown High School and will have a home rematch Friday, April 12 at 7 p.m. against the Eagles.
