BASTROP — The Bastrop High School varsity baseball team won a pair of 5A-District 23 games this past week as the Bears handled Pflugerville Connally High School.
BASTROP BEARS 12, CONNALLY COUGARS 2
Behind an eight-run outburst April 2 in the bottom of the second inning, Bastrop was able to coast to a 12-2 victory at home over Connally in just five innings.
The Bears were led on offense by the trio of Ben Vaquera, Easton Allen and Sam Abraham with three runs batted in apiece. Val Regalado also had an RBI, while Mason Smith and Isaiah Rivas scored two runs each in the dominant win over the Cougars.
Allen got the win on the mound as he pitched four innings and struck out 11 batters, while Francisco Arriaga pitched one scoreless inning in relief with two strikeouts.
BASTROP BEARS 6, CONNALLY COUGARS 2
The Bears went on the road April 5 and picked up a 6-2 win over Connally to sweep the season series over the Cougars.
Regalado, Allen and Smith each drove in one run apiece for Bastrop in the win. Nathan Bracewell had a teamhigh three hits, while Vaguera had two hits and scored a run. In a dominant effort, Regalado got the win as he pitched 5.2 innings with 13 strikeouts, only two hits given up and both runs he allowed were unearned. Abraham came in to pitch 1.1 innings in relief and struck out three batters without giving up a hit or a run.
Bastrop (10-15 overall, 5-3 district record), under Head Coach Daniel Carrillo, were in action Tuesday at Elgin and the Bears will have a home rematch Friday, April 12 at 7 p.m. hosting the Wildcats.
