Bastrop County remained largely unaffected last week by Hurricane Beryl, but its impact on other areas of the state still managed to hit local homeowners and businesses with Spectrum.
Spectrum customers went almost six hours without internet access July 9, inconveniencing residents and forcing some businesses to close shop early or switch to strictly cash transactions.
“It’s crazy, what are we supposed to do, just sit around? No, we closed but they need to get it together,” said one downtown Bastrop business owner who wished to remain anonymous.
According to reports, the internet provider blamed the outage on Hurricane Beryl’s impact on third-party infrastructure. They have not yet provided information on any plans for customer reimbursement.
Some local Spectrum users stated they are considering switching internet providers after the incident, as “this is not the first time something like this has happened.”
Although the hurricane blacked out skies and caused damage throughout the state, the county only received a few bouts of rain. The area’s forecast remains mostly clear, with a 40% chance of rain Friday afternoon, lowering to a 30% chance Sunday, according to the National Weather Service.
