Small business grant an option for more locals

The company that recently gifted a $10,000 grant to a new local business still has plenty of cash left to give.

LegalZoom launched its Fast Break for Small Business grant program in 2021 to give back to the companies that are vital to local economies, creating jobs and driving community growth. The initiative aims to provide entrepreneurs with crucial funding and legal resources.

In collaboration with the NBA, WNBA and NBA G League, LegalZoom has allocated over $6 million to assist new businesses, demonstrating its commitment to supporting businesses at the community level.

“At LegalZoom, we want to do everything we can to lift up entrepreneurs everywhere,” said Catherine Davie, head of engagement, social impact and inclusion at LegalZoom. “Our Fast Break for Small Business grant program aims to bring capital, legal services and visibility to people like Stephanie Puentes so they can continue living their entrepreneurial dream. We’re proud to support small businesses like these that help build community.”

Puentes, a licensed counselor and coach in Elgin, received a $10,000 grant last month for her long-distance relationship focused business, Speak Mija.

“My passion is helping couples and individuals in their relationships,” Puentes said. “I mean, everything in this world, I believe is a relationship, the one that you have with yourself, the one that you have with others in the world around you.”

According to LegalZoom, the grant should help Speak Mija expand its services and broaden its impact in the community.

More than 3,150 small businesses have already benefited from the program, and more Elgin entrepreneurs have the valuable opportunity to access this support.

Grants of up to $10,000 and $500 in LegalZoom services are available to help entrepreneurs achieve their business goals. This funding can be crucial in overcoming challenges and seizing new opportunities, according to the team.

Applying for the Fast Break for Small Business grant program is simple and open to all eligible businesses.
