Meet the Wildcats a hit, champions honored

Elgin High School came alive Aug. 15 as the community gathered for its annual Meet the Wildcats celebration.

The packed gymnasium introduced Elgin Independent School District’s fall sports teams and programs, with a special moment dedicated to the Lady Wildcats’ 2024 varsity powerlifting team. The lifters were honored for their historic state run in the spring with their well-deserved championship rings.

Football, volleyball, cross country, band, Purple Diamonds Dance and cheerleader lineups took center stage, showcasing Elgin’s spirit as the sports season prepares to kick off.

“The Elgin Chamber was delighted to participate in Meet the Wildcats,” the Elgin Chamber of Commerce said. “The energy was high, and we got to speak to our athletes about getting involved in the community and their impact.”

Thanks to the generous support of members and partners, the Chamber successfully provided hotdogs, chips and drinks for all high school athletes and families in attendance.

Elgin athletes brought the successful night to a close by signing autographs for the city’s fans and young, aspiring players.

The Wildcats varsity football team will have a preseason scrimmage Thursday at Lockhart High School, Lady Wildcats varsity volleyball will compete Aug. 22-24 at the Bastrop Tournament and the Elgin cross-country program will run Aug. 23 in Belton.
