New waste and recycling services begin in Bastrop

BASTROP – Bastrop took a major step forward in waste management this month, as Texas Disposal Systems officially became the city's new solid waste and recycling services provider.

The move marked a significant leap in the city's efforts to offer cut t i ng- edge waste solutions that support Bastrop's rapid growth while enhancing the quality of life for residents and businesses alike, according to city representatives.

“Bastrop expects to see exponential growth over the next decade, so we knew we needed a strong, committed waste services partner to provide support for our growth,” said Bastrop City Manager Sylvia Carrillo. “This agreement with Texas Disposal Systems marks a significant step forward in our efforts to provide Bastrop residents and businesses with the best possible services and convenience.”

Under the new contract, TDS now provides comprehensive waste disposal services, including regular curbside collection of solid waste and recycling materials. Residents within Bastrop city limits also have access to brush and bulky pickup services.

The company, which serves many communities across Central Texas, promises reliable service, efficiency and environmental responsibility, according to a prepared release.

TDS’s extensive operations include a Materials Recovery Facility in Creedmoor, which spans more than 160,000 square feet and processes 40 to 45 tons of recyclable material per hour. TDS emphasizes recycling and resource recovery to reduce landfill waste, helping meet the needs of a growing Bastrop.

The company is also dedicated to community education, providing resources to help residents, schools and businesses play an active role in sustainability efforts.

“Texas Disposal Systems is honored to service the City of Bastrop and its residents,” said Matt Hutchings, COO and executive vice president of Texas Disposal Systems and Okapi Environmental Services. “In communities across Central and South Texas, our experienced team delivers exceptional service, upholding the highest standards of sustainability. We look forward to providing reliable, environmentally responsible waste disposal solutions that will support growth, development and a high quality of life in Bastrop.”

As part of the transition, TDS has supplied residents with service schedules, recycling guidelines and information about technology options, including the “Waste Wizard App,” which helps customers manage their waste collection and learn about diversion options.

TDS looks forward to serving the Bastrop community for years to come, delivering noticeably different and better service as the city continues to grow, according to the company.
