Cedar Creek roadside death follows

The Elgin Police Department has identified the driver involved in a recent, fatal single-vehicle crash.

Rene Aguirre Salazar, 23, reportedly crashed his Chevrolet Silverado Sept. 1 near the intersection of U.S. 290 and Western Sky Boulevard, later declared to be the sole fatality, according to the department.

Officers and crash investigators responded to the scene about 8 a.m., closing the outside lane of eastbound U.S. 290. Although traffic continued, drivers were advised to expect delays and exercise caution.

The investigation concluded by 10:57 a.m., and the roadway was reopened.

Further details were not provided, as the investiga- tion is ongoing, police said.

Additionally, a fatal auto- pedestrian collision early Sept. 7 led to the temporary closure of part of Texas 21 in Cedar Creek.

The Texas Department of Public Safety confirmed that troopers were called to the scene around 6:17 a.m. after a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle. The individual was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Bastrop County Office of Emergency Management reported that the intersection of Texas 21 and Farm to Market 535 was closed to traffic shortly after the crash, about 6:30 a.m. The roadway remained closed for several hours before reopening at 10:45 a.m.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the incident. Further updates will be provided as information becomes available.
