BASTROP – Texas Senator Charles Schwertner visited Bastrop’s Children’s Advocacy Center Sept. 22 to present a $65,000 check raised during his recent Governor for a Day celebration.
The time-honored tradition recognizes the President Pro Tempore of the Texas Senate, a position that places Schwertner third in line to serve as acting Governor. As part of his celebration, Senator Schwertner chose to support the local center, which also serves Lee and Fayette County, alongside three other charities – the HEARTS Veterans Museum of Texas, Scotty’s House and the Williamson County Children’s Advocacy Center.
“I am grateful for the opportunity to raise these funds and highlight the important work of the Children’s Advocacy Center,” Senator Schwertner said. “Their mission is special to me because they not only provide services that transform the lives of children who have experienced neglect and abuse, but they also partner with law enforcement to put abusers behind bars. I am proud that the funds raised will help strengthen their operations and help children who have experienced the unimaginable heal.”
Meagan Webb, CEO of the Children’s Advocacy Center, expressed her appreciation for the Senator’s support.
“We are deeply honored that Senator Schwertner chose to spotlight the Children’s Advocacy Center during his Governor for a Day celebration,” Webb added. “This recognition and generous funding directly strengthen our operations and programming, allowing us to better partner with law enforcement and child services to intervene, investigate and provide therapeutic recovery from child abuse and trauma.”
Schwertner’s efforts bring statewide attention to the center’s work, according to Webb, empowering Texans with the awareness and tools necessary to combat child abuse effectively. Together, they aim to make a lasting impact and protect the most vulnerable members of their communities.
In addition to his role as President Pro Tempore of the Texas Senate, a position he assumed last year, Schwertner chairs the Senate Committee on business and commerce and serves on several other committees, including finance and state affairs.
A sixth-generat ion Texan and lifelong conservative Republican, Schwertner has represented Senate District 5 since 2013, which includes Bastrop County.
