New exhibit calls for holiday traditions

BASTROP – The Bastrop County Historical Society is calling on residents to share their unique holiday traditions for a special exhibit at Bastrop’s award-winning museum.

Current and former Bastrop County residents are invited to submit their stories and photos to the Bastrop Museum and Visitor Center for a chance to be featured in an exhibit running from Nov. 23 to Jan. 4.

The exhibit, titled 'Celebrate the Season: Holiday Traditions in Bastrop,' will highlight the many ways families in the community celebrate the holidays, from favorite recipes to quirky customs.

'We want to hear from you – share your festive traditions, holiday memories and the special ways your family makes the season bright,' Heather Bloom said, museum collections manager.

Submissions are free, and selected stories will be displayed in the museum's special exhibition room, located at 904 Main Street, daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., excluding Sundays.

The Historical Society encourages participants to write about their favorite holiday rituals and memories, whether it’s a family gathering, a beloved recipe or a unique holiday tradition. Participants can also submit a photo to accompany their stories, capturing the essence of their celebrations. Stories are limited to 500 words.

Submi s s ion s ca n be sent via email to [email protected] by Oct. 29. Participants should include their name, contact information, and how they would like their family to be identified in the exhibit. Selected stories may also be shared on the Society’s website and social media platforms.

'By sharing holiday tradition stories, participants contribute to preserving cherished memories for future generations and fostering a greater sense of community,' Bloom added.

The Bastrop County Historical Society, a nonprofit organization, is dedicated to preserving and celebrating the history and culture of the region. Through its museum and various initiatives, the Society engages the community in preserving Bastrop’s rich heritage, according to the team.
