September sees third autopedestrian fatality

BASTROP — Bastrop Police Department off icers Sept. 27 were dispatched to the 100 block of Texas 71 E. in response to an auto-pedestrian crash, police said.

Several officers arrived on scene about 6 p.m. with mutual aid received from the Bas- trop County Sheriff ’s Office and Bastrop Fire Department, according to reports.

A preliminary investigation indicated an adult male, who is not being identified until his next of kin have been notified, was attempting to cross the eastbound main lanes of traffic when he was struck by a vehicle, the department added.

The driver of the vehicle sustained no injuries, reports said, and no other injuries or damages were incurred.

The investigation is still ongoing, according to Chief of Police Vicky Steffanic.

This marked the third auto-pedestrian death reported in Bastrop County during September.
