Bastrop Independent School District is inviting the community to participate in a critical step in its developmental process, naming three new schools scheduled to open in August.
The new facilities include Elementary School No. 9, Middle School No. 3 and Middle School No. 4.
Elementary School No. 9 is currently under construction in the Adelton subdivision along Farm to Market 20 and Texas 71 in Bastrop. Both Middle School No. 3, formerly Bastrop Intermediate, and Middle School No. 4, formerly Cedar Creek Intermediate, are also undergoing renovations to transition from intermediate to middle school facilities.
According to Bastrop ISD policy, the public can submit nominations for the names of these new schools. The nomination period runs through Oct. 11 and individuals are encouraged to submit only one nomination per form.
Nominations can be made by completing an online form at bisdtx. org/NameOurSchools or by filling out a paper nomination form and delivering it to the Bastrop ISD offices at 906 Farm St. in Bastrop.
The names may honor various subjects, including historical or geographic sites, significant local, state or national figures, historical events or individuals who have made notable contributions to education in Bastrop ISD. In addition, names may represent the neighborhood where the school is located.
If a name refers to a historical site or figure, it must be accompanied by a written summary or description detailing its significance. For individual nominations, a rationale explaining the person's accomplishments is required. Each nominee must meet specific criteria – they should be widely respected, embody a wholesome image that endures and have a background of service to the community, Texas or the United States, the district said.
Bastrop ISD appreciates community involvement in this important naming process, representatives added. For questions, please reach out to Bastrop ISD Communications at 512-7727173 or via email at [email protected].
