Spooky fun at St. Peter’s

The annual Halloween Trunk or Treat held Sunday in front of St. Peter’s Church of Coupland, 108 Wathen St., featured residents dressed up in costumes and handing out treats from decorated vehicles.

A backup plan in case of inclement weather included moving the spooky fun to the fellowship hall.

Meanwhile, the Coupland Civic Organization stayed busy in September and October, including hosting Choo Choo Fest and a report on local schools.

The nonprofit sponsored a meeting and spaghetti supper Sept. 30 featuring Coupland Independent School District Superintendent Earl Parcell discussing the growth of the Coupland School, the new middle school and how schools are financed.

The supper took place at St. Peter’s.

St. Peter’s also was the site of the annual Choo Choo Fest Oct. 20, which included a barbecue dinner prepared by master chef Peter Wabbel. Featured dishes included sausage, pork loin and chicken drumsticks. CCO members provided homemade sides of potato salad, coleslaw and beans. Desserts were available from the bake sale. Coupland merchandise on sale included collectible Caboose T-shirts.

Children and their families enjoyed free rides around town on the Kiddie Express train from noon until 2 p.m. The popular Homestead Petting Zoo also delighted young and old alike, organizers said.

Choo Choo Fest is the CCO’s biggest fundraiser and helps maintain the historic Depot and caboose.

St. Peter ’s hosts a number of area events and activities, sponsors said.

These include:

• Coffee Connections, 9:30 a.m. Tuesdays in the Church Conference Room.

• Popsicle Playdates at the playground at 9 a.m. the last Saturday of each month.

• Worship 10:15 a.m. Sunday and a separate children’s program for ages 2 and up,

• Kirchenfest, the traditional celebration honoring past confirmation graduates, was Sunday.

• Veterans Day Service Nov. 10.

• Coupland Community Senior Luncheon, hosted by the ladies’ group, is 11 a.m. Nov. 19 with turkey and all the trimmings. The meal is free, but donations are appreciated, sponsors said. They also ask for a $10 bingo prize if possible.

St. Peter’s monthly newsletter is not only mailed but is now online with more information and color photos. Click the “Newsletter” button at the top of the website at StPetersCoupland.
