Elgin High School athletes Amar Bermudez and Jalen Owens officially signed their National Letters of Intent Wednesday, Nov. 13, during a ceremony at the Elgin High School gym.

Bermudez, a four-year varsity basketball guard celebrated for his sharpshooting, committed to play for the Bethany College Swedes in Kansas, an NAIA program.

Owens, an infielder who joined the Wildcats' varsity baseball team as a sophomore, signed with the University of Texas at San Antonio, a Division I NCAA school. He was pivotal in leading Elgin to back-to-back playoff appearances, according to athletics program staff.

Both athletes are gearing up for their final seasons at Elgin. Bermudez has already hit the court as the basketball season is underway, while Owens and the baseball team look ahead to opening day Feb. 20.
