An Elgin Independent School District coach was removed from staff after being charged in another county with possession of child pornography and an improper relationship with a student.
Devin Ryan Anderson, 26, of Manor, was taken into custody Dec. 2 by Elgin police on warrants issued in Gregg County.
Officials Thursday, Dec. 12, identified Anderson as an Elgin High School assistant varsity basketball coach.
The charges are unrelated to his time in Elgin, according to district representatives.
He was immediately placed on administrative leave when Elgin ISD was informed of the arrest and parents were notified, district representatives said, before terminating his employment.
Anderson was booked into Bastrop County Jail before being transferred to the Gregg County Jail in Longview, where he was released Dec. 3 after posting bonds totaling $55,000, police said.
Gregg County records indicate the improper relationship charge is linked to an Oct. 17 incident, while the child pornography allegation is dated to the day of his arrest.
KETK in Longview reported the arrest was requested by the Kilgore Police Department.
Anderson previously served as head boys basketball coach at Cumberland Academy in Tyler before joining Elgin High in August, according to reports.
