A mix of sleigh bells and the roaring engines of local riders ushered in another successful year of holiday donations last weekend.

The Lucky Old Scoundrels Motorcycle Club, led by group president and city Councilman Chuck Swain, held its annual Elgin Toy Run Dec. 14. About 50 bikers delivered a trailer full of gifts and raised nearly $2,500 for Elgin Open Door Missions.

“Nothing we do is more rewarding than seeing the children jump up and down with glee when they hear the approaching motorcycle sleighs bearing gifts, or the happy tears from the parents and wonderful folks like Sister Irene,” LOSMC member Dave Holmes said.

This year’s donations helped Missions director Irene Marapao provide a brighter Christmas for 136 disadvantaged families in the area, according to the club.

Since its founding in 2012, the LOSMC has cultivated brotherhood among its members while fostering a close relationship with the community to promote its growth, Holmes added. The nonprofit group organizes and operates fundraising activities solely for charitable purposes, according to the riders, supporting veterans and law enforcement, as well as families in need.

Working with local groups like Elgin Open Door Missions — which provides essential services such as counseling, food, clothing and housing assistance — the scoundrels stay active with public charity efforts year-round.
