Jodi Paige Williams takes the reins of the Elgin Lady Wildcats softball program, entering a new era in 2025, she said.
Williams brings seven years of coaching experience at both the high school and collegiate levels, and she will look to build on last season’s points of success.
Elgin is coming off an impressive second-place finish in district play last year, advancing to the area round of the playoffs before falling to Lake Belton. However, the girls will have to reload after losing a large group of seniors, i nc ludi ng standout pitcher and hitter Jessica Cantrell. In the circle, the Lady Wildcats will need to replace several key arms, with Adriana Sandoval expected to step up as the team’s primary pitcher.
Despite the departures, Elgin returns key contributors junior Bianca Galindo, junior Trinity Martinez and sophomore Jaelyn Barker.
The Lady Wildcats will be tested early with a challenging non-dist rict schedule. They open the season against Canyon Lake Feb. 11, before competing in the Comal Tournament, Feb. 13-15. Elgin will then travel to the Abilene ISD Ice Breaker Tournament Feb. 20-22.
District play begins Tuesday, March 4, when the girls face rival Hendrickson. The following week, they will take on defending district champion Georgetown in a pivotal early-season matchup. With new leadership and enough retuning talent, Elgin eyes another competitive season and postseason run.
