Elgin soccer goes 1-1 vs. Cougars

Elgin’s varsity soccer squads split their matchups against the Connally Cougars Friday, Feb. 7, with the boys falling 3-1 while the girls secured a 2-0 victory.

Wildcats

The Wildcats struggled to contain the Cougars’ offense and couldn’t keep pace with shots on target.

Jorge Gonzales netted Elgin’s lone goal, assisted by Miguel Aguilar.

The loss dropped the Wildcats to 4-7-1 overall and 0-5 in district play, extending their losing streak to five games.

Elgin looks to bounce back against East View Feb. 11, before traveling to Hendrickson Tuesday, Feb. 18, for a 7:15 p.m. match.

Lady Wildcats

The girls earned their first district win of the season with a shutout over the Cougars.

Elgin’s back line was noticeably more active, forcing possessions and closing out the game with the team’s first clean sheet.

The win improved the Lady Wildcats to 5-4-2 overall and 1-4 in district play.

They return to action against East View Feb. 11, before hosting Hendrickson Tuesday, Feb. 18, at 7:15 p.m.
