Limuel leads Bears to playoff win

Limuel leads Bears to playoff win

BASROP — Junior forward Keyaira Limuel propelled Bastrop through the bi-district round of the playoffs Feb. 10, accounting for more than half of the Bears’ points in a backand- forth matchup with the Weiss Wolves.

Limuel led the team with 29 points and 15 rebounds, securing a 46-37 win.

Bastrop controlled the game in the first quarter and earned an 11-4 advantage, but costly turnovers and a fast-breaking Weiss quickly swung the scoreboard around in the second.

The Bears responded with a 14-point run of their own, outmatching the Wolves with size as Limuel and senior forward Neveah Jones confidently controlled the paint.

Bastrop entered the second half up by 13 points. Missed free throws from the Bears and a final push from Weiss allowed the Wolves to briefly come within four points, but Bastrop’s power proved too much and the girls were able to keep them at bay.

Jones finished the game with double-digit points, alongside Limuel’s double- double performance.

With the win, Bastrop advances to the area round of the playoffs, where the Bears will face Fort Bend. The time and date of the matchup are yet to be determined.
