Talent at the plate and a pitching performance propelled the Bastrop varsity baseball team to a two-game sweep over the Navarro Vikings last week.

The Bears improved to 9-11 overall while remaining unbeaten in district play at 4-0. They will next play a home-and-home series against the Liberal Arts & Science Academy, teeing off in Bastrop at 7 p.m. Friday, April 4.

Game 1

Bastrop cruised to a 9-2 win March 25 behind combined offensive firepower from Cooper Voigt and Frankie Andrada, who drove in four runs while going 3-for-7 at the plate.

The Bears jumped out front with two first-inning runs—one courtesy of a Navarro error and another on Voigt’s RBI single.

A three-run second, highlighted by Andrada’s two-RBI double, stretched the lead to 5-0.

Izaiah Regaldo added another two-RBI single in the third, while Voigt stifled Navarro’s lineup from the mound, tossing five scoreless frames and racking up 11 strikeouts before turning things over to the bullpen in the sixth.

Bastrop tacked on two more runs in the fourth and one in the fifth, putting the game effectively out of reach.

The Vikings managed two runs in the sixth but could not threaten further.

Game 2

The Bears sealed the sweep with a 7-0 shutout March 29, powered by Val Regaldo’s dominant complete- game performance.

Regaldo allowed just one hit and recorded 12 strikeouts.

Bastrop capitalized on a Navarro throwing error to plate two runs in the opening frame, then added a sacrifice fly in the fourth for a 3-0 cushion.

A pair of runs in the fifth, including an RBI single from Ben Vaquera, increased the lead, and Koby Wright’s RBI knock in the sixth provided the final margin.

The result strengthened Bastrop’s hold atop the district standings, as the Bears remain undefeated in league play heading into their series with LASA.
