Elgin Independent School District officials have outlined progress on several major bond projects, emphasizing campus improvements and strategic investments to manage rapid enrollment growth. According to the district, development on the upcoming second middle school and upgrades to Elgin High School continue its commitment to “prioritizing the use of public dollars for public schools,” as noted in its 2025 legislative priorities list.
Superintendent Jana Rueter said both the 2021 and 2024 bond packages are shaping the district’s future by expanding capacity and modernizing facilities.
“We’re making great progress in accommodating our fast growth,” she said, noting that the recently approved $375 million bond package will not raise the area’s current tax rate.
Middle School No. 2
One of the largest projects on the docket, the tentatively named Middle School No. 2 is scheduled to open in fall 2027 on a 140-acre site along FM 1704.
Designs unveiled by Executive Director of Bond Projects Rainey Lann show a two-story campus clustered around an outdoor space, complete with a track and football field.
Rueter called the new campus a key part of the district’s mission to use taxpayer funds efficiently while addressing enrollment pressures.
High school improvements
Another top priority, according to the district, is continued improvement to Elgin High School, where Wildcat Stadium’s press box will be expanded to better support Career and Technical Education programs.
Planned upgrades also include four new tennis courts, along with a canopy and bleachers, so the Elgin High tennis team can begin hosting matches on campus.
In addition, baseball and softball fields are being outfitted with artificial turf and new scoreboards, which Rueter described as “valuable resources for our students.”
Expansion and transportation
The district’s new Trinity Ranch Elementary campus, funded through the 2021 bond and scheduled to open in August, is poised to help relieve pressure from growing elementary enrollment, according to the superintendent.
A sixth elementary school for Elgin was also included in the 2024 bond.
Beyond classroom expansions, the district next plans to relocate and enhance its transportation facility, with the first phase slated for 2026 completion near Elgin High.
“Whether students or staff, district or community wide, Elgin is growing, and the best is yet to come,” Rueter said. “We have so much to be proud of, so much to cheer about, and we can’t wait to see what’s next.”
