SMITHVILLE — Four Smithville track and field athletes will compete in the Region III-Class 4A Meet this weekend.
The Tigers and Lady Tigers earned their regional spots by placing in the top four of their events at the Districts 2122-4A area meet April 9 in La Grange. The region meet will take place Friday and Saturday at Bullard High School.
Briyanna Sampson had a big day for the Lady Tigers, claiming first place in the long jump and adding a runner-up finish in the triple jump.
Other Lady Tigers who qualified for the region meet were Addison Waneck, who finished third in the 800-meter run, and Emorie Jones, who took fourth in the 3,200-meter run.
On the boys’ side, Zane Perkins qualified by finishing fourth in the pole vault, making him the Tigers’ lone regional representative.
At the District 22-4A Meet earlier this month in Giddings, Sampson won the long jump and the triple jump, Waneck was third in the 800, Jones was fourth in the 3,200 and Perkins was fourth in the pole vault.
