Haywood qualifies for state, finishes second

WEBSTER — Bastrop varsity girls long jumper Maggie Haywood qualified for the state meet with a jump of 18 feet, 4 ¼ inches, earning second place at the Class 5A Region III meet in Webster.

The Bears had four other athletes compete in event finals.

LaDianian Merino finished 11th in the boys high jump with a mark of 5-8, Kian Pucek recorded a jump of 21-7 in the boys long jump finals, Jaleyn Gratten placed 15th in the boys triple jump with a distance of 40-11 ¾ and Greyson Thompson finished fifth in the boys pole vault at 13-6.

The UIL state track and field meet will be held May 1–3 at Mike A. Myers Stadium on the University of Texas at Austin campus.
