Two 18-wheelers and an SUV were involved in a crash that closed down U.S. 290.
At 8:17 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 28, the Elgin Police Department were dispacted to the accident in west Elgin. No serious injuries were reported.
The two semi-trucks both carried trailers. Despite the timing of the rush hour collision, the aftermath caused a delay in opening up traffic.
"Extensive damage to one of the semi’s to include a puncture to the fuel tank with diesel spilled onto U.S. 290," said Commander Gena Curtis.
The roadway was still shut down as of 1:30 p.m.
"They are having to lift one semi so it can be picked up by a Class A wrecker," added Curtis.
EPD and the Elgin Fire Department were aided by the McDade Volunteer Fire Department, Austin Community College campus police and Acadian ambulance service.
This is a developing story. Updates will be in the March 8 edition of the Courier.
