Bulk trash, more limb pickup this week

More than storm debris is being picked up this week.

Elgin’s first of four bulk trash pickups this year is this week. Limb pickup is still ongoing in separate operations.

Bulk trash items can be placed on the curb up to two days before a resident’s scheduled regular weekly pickup day. Dead animals, whole trees, construction debris, hazardous waste or piles over 3 cubic yards do not qualify for bulk pickup. City staff requests that bulk trash be placed separately from any limbs on the curbside. The city’s next bulk trash pickup will be June 12-16.

Meanwhile, Elgin workers will focus on picking up limb debris this week from Winter Storm Mara on South Avenue C to Texas 95 and Main Street to Loop 109 and Harris. As of March 10, city workers have picked up at least 3,700 cubic yards of brush as of March 10. Municipal staff received a purchased chipper last week but returned the tool after reportedly not working properly.

Other limb disposal options in the Elgin area include Fenske Sand and Gravel, Hornsby Bend BioSolids Management Plant, Austin Wood Recycling and Texas Trash.com. The Elgin Chamber of Commerce offers alternatives as well.
