Worthy of Sonnet

Elgin students gave all-star performances on stage in front of and behind the curtain.

Elgin High School Varsity Theater participated in the District 23-5A One Act Play Contest on March 9 at Hendrickson High School’s Gerrell Moore Performing Arts Center. Ninel James won the All Star Cast Award, with Robert Miller receiving honorable mention. Cassie Rice was presented the All Star Technician Award.

The Wildcat actors performed “The Dark Lady of the Sonnets,” by Bernard Shaw. According to the Library Journal, "The Dark Lady of the Sonnets," a playlet by Bernard Shaw set in London around 1600, involves a palace guard, a quirky Shakespeare, and his lady of the title.

Cast included Brandon Clear, The Beefeater and Warder; Ninel Jaimes, The Man; Robert Miller, The Lady and Queen Elizabeth; Rebecca Shipman, The Dark Lady and Mary; Caleb Clemons, Shakespeare; and Jaxon Larson and Alondra Soto, Bushes. Crewmates were Cassie Rice, sound; Sapphirra Mckenzie, lights; and Elizabeth Alsobrook, crew. Elgin High School theater teacherAmanda Miller was the director.
