The coolest weather in almost a month might be on the way along with some storms.

Highs in the low to mid 50s are forecast for Friday through Monday, March 17-20. A 90% chance of thunderstorms is also in play for Thursday, March 16.

"Warm to above normal by Thursday, then cool to well below normal for Friday through the weekend,” said the National Weather Service Austin/San Antonio Office.

Thursday should reach 78 degrees before 15-25 mph winds breeze through with gusts up 35 mph. A wind advistory is in effect from 9 p.m. Thursday through noon Friday.

"While there remains the potential for two rounds of thunderstorms, the better severe weather chances have shifted to be focused on thunderstorms along a cold front tonight into early Friday morning," said NWS Austin/San Antonio Service. "An isolated strong to severe thunderstorm may be possible east of I-35 this afternoon. The main hazards with severe thunderstorms are damaging wind gusts and hail."

Bastrop County is classified as having a "slight" chance — 2 out of 5 rating — for strong or severe weather tonight.

"An isolated tornado can not be ruled out," said NWS. "However, it is not a primary hazard."

Friday is expected to be just as windy with a 30% chance of storms. Saturday should be partly cloudy with slightly less windy conditions.

Lows in Elgin are forecast to be and dip to the upper 30 from Friday night through Saturday night. Temperatures are expected to trend upward Tuesday, March 21.
