Residents filled Elgin Memorial Park last Friday to help a young girl recovering from injuries.

More than $8,000 has been raised to help with medical costs for Marleigh Jackson, a NeidigElementary School student reportedly involved in a hit-and-run accident March 12. A hamburger fundraiser and GoFundMe fundraiser were established to help Jackson and her family.

According to friends of the family, Jackson was taking a walk with her grandparents before the incident occurred. She was taken Dell Children’s Medical Center and placed in the intensive care unit.

Both friends and NES helped spread work of the hamburger fundraiser March 17 and online contribution. The GoFundMe, organized by Amanda Harvey, had a $5,000 goal but amassed $8,110 as of March 20.
