SMITHVILLE — Smithville Independent School District has entered into an agreement with Austin Community College to help aspiring teachers achieve certification.
The goal of the ACC Teacher Residency Program is to provide quality preparation to teacher candidates interested in achieving state certification within one year. SISD will hire ACC Teacher Residents under the supervision of a teacher host-mentor will receive hands-on experience in a classroom setting four days per week and ACC instruction one day per week.
Applications will be available on both the ACC website and the SISD website effective immediately. Both institutions must receive an application for admission into the teacher residency program.
Participants accepted into the residency program will be paid at the paraprofessional rate, and will receive full SISD benefits, including TRS retirement benefits and health insurance.
