Eagles get big win over Cougars

PFLUGERVILLE – The Cedar Creek Eagles baseball team inched closer to a playoff spot Friday night.

The Eagles improved to 3-3 on the district season after defeating the Pflugerville Connally Cougars on the road Friday, March 31.

The Eagles now sit in fifth place in the district and are only a game back from being in a playoffspot after a 6-0 win over the Cougars.

The Eagles would start the game on offense, and the Cougars walked their leadoff batter. Cedar Creek took advantage of the situation by laying down a sacrifice bunt to advance the runner to second base.

The Eagles followed with a single to get runners on first and third. The runner on first would then steal second to have two runners in scoring position.

The Eagles then added another single to their first-inning domination, and that hit would bring home both runners. Sitting with a 2-0 lead, the Cougars’ defense would get the final two outs to end the inning.

Cedar Creek then shut down the Cougars on defense, and the Cougars returned the favor in the second. The Eagles would again do a great job of keeping the Cougars offense at bay, to keep it a 2-0 game heading into the third.

The Eagles extended their lead to 3-0 in the third inning after a sacrifice fly ball to bring home a run. Then in the fifth inning, the Eagles made it a 4-0 ball game after hitting back-to-back singles.

With the Eagles defense standing tall, their offense went into the sixth with a sense of confidence. After walking a batter and allowing a single the Cougars had an Eagles runner in scoring position.

A sacrifice bunt would bring one run home followed up by a single that brought home another run for the Eagles. With a 6-0 lead the Eagles defense continued to dominate the field and heldoff the Cougars hopes of a late rally to pick up the win.

The Eagles then began making preparations for their next district game Tuesday, April 4, when they travel to take on the Elgin Wildcats.
