Gun discharges at restaurant

BASTROP — A child and others were injured in an apparent accidental discharge in a Mexican restaurant late last month.

On March 31 at 8:23 a.m., shots fired were reported at Casa Chapala in the 1800 block of Walnut Street. The Bastrop Police Department was dispatched to investigate.

“It was determined that a male suspect was improperly carrying a loaded firearm when a negligent discharge occurred,” said BPD in a press release. “Individuals, including juveniles, were mildly injured by debris stemming from the ricochet. All parties refused EMS services.”

Jordan Peters, 28, of Paige, was charged with deadly conduct and injury to a child.

“This is an isolated incident with no further danger to public safety,” added BPD.

The case remains under investigation.
