Lady Wildcats complete team effort takes down the Hawks

The Elgin Lady Wildcats took on the Hendrickson Hawks Saturday, April 22 in their last game of the season, and set the tone for their team heading into playoffs.

The Lady Wildcats captured some early momentum thanks to stellar pitching from Paiton Altmiller and rode it to a 9-1 victory over the Hawks.

The win comes after a hard road loss to the Pflugerville Panthers and solidified the Lady Wildcats as the second-place team in the district. The game was held scoreless for the first inning as the two teams settled into the game.

Altmiller and the Lady Wildcat defense continued to control the game, keeping the Hawks off the board in the top of the second. The Lady Wildcats would end up getting the game’s opening score, which gave them momentum on offense early in the game.

The Hawks finally broke through Altmiller’s pitching and the Lady Wildcats defense to score a run and tie the game up at one run each. Altmiller took it personally as she and the defense completely locked down the field for the rest of the game.

The Lady Wildcats offense was unphased by the Hawks, tying the game up as they continued to motor on. The Lady Wildcats utilized their speed to score two runs in the third to retake the lead and reignite the crowd.

The game would simmer down as the teams were held scoreless in the fourth inning, but the Lady Wildcats were ready to ramp up again. The Lady Wildcats added two more runs to their lead in the fifth inning to take a commanding 5-1 lead.

The Lady Wildcats defense faced three batters and secured three outs and went back on offense. The Lady Wildcats scored four more runs to make it a 9-1 game.

Altmiller and the defense finished the game, and the Lady Wildcats celebrated their victory.

With the season wrapped up, the Lady Wildcats now look to the post season journey.
