Circle Brewing, the city of Elgin and the Elgin Chamber of Commerce celebrated the official grand opening of The Elgin Farm, Circle Brewing company’s new brewery and tap room at 816 Lexington Road on Saturday, May 6 with a ribbon cutting.
Circle Brewing Company is receiving economic development incentives from the city and the Elgin Economic Development Corporation. The city and the EDC are refunding city and EDC sales tax totaling 1.5% sales tax, 100% reimbursement year one, and the following four years 90% reimbursement to Circle Brewing Company and reimbursed impact fees for water and wastewater of approximately $35,000.
The EDC provided a loan guarantee in the form of a CD for $125,000. Circle Brewing was required to acquire the 24-acre site, build and operate a 12,000-square foot brewery, and employ a minimum of 12 people throughout the five years of the contract.
“We join in the excitement of the Circle Brewing owners and staff as they see the final results of all their hard work. It’s a rarity these days to be able to claim ‘the first ever in Texas’, but that’s exactly what the Circle Brewing project is bringing to Elgin. We are proud of the partnership between Circle and the city of Elgin to help make this project a reality.” said Tom Mattis, city manager.
During the ribbon cutting, guests enjoyed beer freshly brewed at the Elgin location, live music, food trucks and vendors, the city and the Chamber provided a welcome table and information booth to greet visitors.
The property includes walking trails, a variety of outdoor seating and games and has a working farm to grow ingredients for the brewing process, harnessing sustainable agriculture techniques to fuel the brewery.
“It has always been a dream to be able to grow our own ingredients to use in the brewing process.” said co-founder Ben Sabel. “We’re excited to finally turn that dream into a reality by producing beers that are grown entirely on site and 100% Texan from seed to glass.”
