On your next drive through historic downtown Elgin, you will see new banners that celebrate veterans of the community. Charlotte Thomas initiated the Hometown Heroes banner recognition program with the approval of the Elgin Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6115.

Thomas led the program, securing donations and family photographs to use in the banners. She worked with the production company and ensured that a high-quality banner was produced for each honoree. Every banner is an individual and recognizes an Elgin veteran either living or deceased. Individuals made donations to the VFW for these banners that are now installed on light poles in the downtown historic district.

The banners will remain in place until August.

For more information about the Hometown Heroes banners call Carl Jones at 512-373-0908 or Charlotte Thomas at 512-784-9617 or email [email protected].
