Betty Ruth Tedford Dougherty

In loving memory of Betty Ruth Tedford Dougherty, a beautiful soul whose presence graced the lives of many with kindness, compassion and unwavering love.

Betty was born on April 20, 1943, in San Antonio, Texas, where she began her journey in this world filled with promise and potential. Sadly, on March 5, 2024, Betty peacefully departed from this life in Austin, Texas, leaving behind a legacy that will forever be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Throughout her remarkable career, Betty dedicated herself to serving others. From her role as the Captain’s Secretary at the Midland Police Department to her years of service at the Texas Board of Pardon and Parole, she touched the lives of many with her hard work and dedication. Her commitment to her work was truly admirable, leaving a lasting impact on all those she encountered.

Betty’s passion extended beyond her professional life. She found joy in showcasing Persian and American Short Haired tabby cats and later broadened her interests to include exhibiting rabbits throughout the state of Texas. This love for animals symbolized Betty’s nurturing spirit and gentle heart.

Betty’s memory will forever be etched in the hearts of her surviving family members: her daughters Carol Ann Reagan Sander (husband Dennis), Christina Marie Dougherty Fridenberg (husband Ronnie), son John William Reagan Sr., (Kari Grantham), and cherished granddaughter Harley Marie Reagan Sutton (husband Travis), who she raised and was ‘Mom’ too.

She was also beloved ‘Grammy’ to her grandchildren: Dwayne (wife Liz), Teresa, Marcus, Shianne, Shane, Shawn, Brittany, Dakota, John Jr., Emilly, Mary, Cole, Lora, Adalynne, Callum and Great ‘Grammy’ to Wynona, Jack Ransom, River Cerilene, Jordan, Jaxson, Ashton, Lila, Lane, Avery, Zoey, Noah and soon to be Reina May.

The bond of family remained strong for Betty as she leaves behind siblings Richard Charles (Dick) Tedford (Jo Marie), Mary Catherine (Cathy) Raska (Bryan), William Louis (Bill) Tedford (Terri), along with numerous nieces and nephews. Additionally, Betty held dear two exceptional individuals who were more than friends; Leslie Crofts and Chester Newman stood by her side through thick and thin, exemplifying unwavering loyalty and companionship.

In reflecting on those who have gone before her, Betty now reunites with her parents Evalyn Eva Strickland and Lora Francis “Tiny” Tedford and daughter Dorothy RenĂ© Reagan in eternal peace.

As friends and family gather to honor Betty’s life at the upcoming services held at Elgin Funeral Home in Elgin, Texas — a place where memories will be shared — the essence of who she was will continue to resonate in the hearts of all those who were fortunate enough to be part of her journey. May Betty Tedford Dougherty rest in eternal peace knowing she has left an indelible mark on all those whose lives she touched.

Family and friends will gather for a Visitation at Elgin Funeral Home on Tuesday, March 12, from 6 to 8 p.m. A Celebration of Betty’s life will be held at Elgin Funeral Home on Wednesday, March 13, at 11 a.m. with Larry and Debbie Sutton presiding. Inurnment will be private.
