Gloria Mae Matthews Betak

Gloria Mae Matthews Betak

On Monday, April 1, 2024, Gloria Mae Matthews Betak, age 80, left her earthly home in Bastrop, to go to “the Father’s House.” She was born April 12, 1943, in Rosenberg, to the most wonderful mother in the world, Joy Matthews, who was always her best friend and confidant in this world.

Gloria accepted the Lord as her savior at an early age, and always stated that Heaven was to be her permanent home. Now, by God’s grace, she has arrived there. She joins her darling mother and will never more be separated from her.

Gloria graduated from Elgin High School, obtained her associate degree in accounting and was a licensed registered nurse. She was an ordained minister and assistant pastor at End Tyme Fellowship in Bastrop.

Gloria was preceded in death by her parents, Reverend Joy Matthews and Leonard Matthews; three sisters, Tiny Louise Matthews, Vivian Nolan and Leatrice Nelson; and three brothers, Troy L.C. Matthews, Elmer Matthews and Douglas Matthews.

She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Ray Dan Betak; her beloved children, Michael Deane Betak and Tanya Raylene Betak; her grandson, Benjamin Lee Betak and his wife Melanie; a great granddaughter, Avalon Belle Betak; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She also had adopted “in love” Ralph Fikes of Bastrop, and Merry Bell Rye of Parma, Missouri. She had great love for them both and they held a special place in her heart.

To those left behind… if she could, she would say, “See you at the father’s house.”

On behalf of the family, we give a heartfelt thank you to our friends and family and End Tyme Fellowship for their prayers and for being with us during this time. Thanks, as well to Trinity Hospice for their care.

Visitation was held from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, April 4, at Providence- Jones Family Funeral Home in Elgin.

A funeral service was held Friday, April 5, at 11 a.m. at Providence- Jones Family Funeral Home in Elgin.

Interment was at Elgin City Cemetery immediately following the funeral.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made in Gloria’s name to her church, End Tyme Fellowship in Bastrop.
