Lillian Frances Kastner Monson

Lillian Frances Kastner Monson

Lillian Frances Kastner Monson, age 99 of Elgin, passed away Monday, April 15, 2024.

Lillian was born Sept. 18,1924, in McDade, to Martin and Henrietta (Liesmann) Kastner. She attended Ramsey school and Elgin High School, graduating in 1941. After high school, she attended Durham’s business College in Austin, and started working at Austin National Bank May 10, 1943, located at 5th and Congress Avenue. She served the bank for 42 years and retired May 10, 1985.

Lillian said that she was the luckiest lady in the world, when she married the love of her life, Homer Eugene Monson, Dec. 20, 1946, at the Central Methodist Church in Austin. Homer and Lillian lived at 1412 Alameda Drive in Austin until they retired and moved to their home in Elgin in June of 1985. They shared 42 wonderful years together until Homer’s passing July 27, 1996.

Lillian had a love for reading romance novels, and enjoyed talking about the book she was reading, playing dominos and Skip-Bo with her family and McDade Friends, baking bread and inviting you over for lunch on a minute’s notice.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Martin and Henrietta Kastner; her husband, Homer; sister, Katherine Wolf; brothers, Charles William Kastner, Martin Kastner Jr. and Joe Kastner; and niece, Judy Santos.

Lillian is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Graveside services were held Friday, April 19, at 10 a.m. at McDade Cemetery in McDade.

Special thanks to New Haven Assisted Living and Memory Care for all the love shown to Lillian during her two-year stay.
