Charles Lee Frazier, Jr.,

Charles Lee Frazier, Jr., passed away peacefully at his home to be with the Lord July 21, 2024. Charles was born June 26, 1926 in Austin, to Charles Lee Frazier, Sr. and wife Mary Amanda Short Frazier.

He was born at the family home on Frazier Avenue in today’s southwest Austin. During his lifetime Charles saw Austin go from horses and buggies on Congress Avenue to what it is today.

As a boy, he and friends would walk two or three miles and enjoy playing and swimming in what is today, Barton Springs, or ride the rails into downtown Austin. Charles is a World War II veteran. He served in the South Pacific on Guam, Leyte and Luzon Islands. Awards include Asian Pacific Medal, World War II Victory Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal, Army Service Medal, Texas Faithful Service Medal, Faithful Service Medal, Texas Medal of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal and Lone Star Distinguished Medal.

He served in what was then the Army Air Force. Upon returning to the United States, he went into the Army Reserve and shortly thereafter into the Texas Army National Guard at Camp Mabry, where he stayed until retirement.

During his years in the Texas Army National Guard, he worked in the medical section, publications section, maintenance section and finally as head of military pay for the State of Texas Army National Guard, retiring June 26, 1988, with rank of CWO5.

Charles total time of military service to his country covered 43 years, three months and 15 days.

In retirement, Charles divided his time between ranching in Bastrop County, and spending summers at his home in southern Colorado in the San Juan Mountains. Charles was an avid deer hunter, never missing a season for 40 years with his close family friends Morris Wallis and Elmer Wallis.

He also worked hard at never missing a Texas Longhorn game with family and friends. Charles was a life member of the Austin High Alumni Association, Texas Exes, RMEF, VFW, American Legion, NGAT, TSRA, NRA and the Texas and Southwestern Cattlemen’s Association.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Mary Frazier; a brother, Billy Frazier; and sister, Kate Frazier Chiappino Doty.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy Jo Clark Frazier; sons, Chris Frazier and wife April, Harold Frazier and wife Toni; six grandsons, two granddaughters, two great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and wonderful friends and neighbors.

His granddaughter Alicia Bell will serve as pastor for his service. Honorary pall bearers will be his grandsons Charles Gregory Frazier, Patrick Neal Frazier, Justin Michael Frazier, Colby Thomas Frazier, Cody Lane Vanek, Austin Anthony Kasper, Luke Bell and granddaughter Elizabeth Rae Frazier.

Charles will be laid to rest Tuesday July 30, in Austin Memorial Cemetery. A funeral service will be Tuesday July 30, at 10 a.m. at Cook-Walden Funeral Home on North Lamar.
