A visitation was Aug. 1, 2024, at Providence-Jones Family Funeral Home, 604 Texas 95 North in
Elgin. Following the visitation, a Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at Sacred Heart
Catholic Church in Elgin. Internment was at Forrest Grove Christian Church Cemetery near
Rockdale.

Matthew Michael Currey, 43, of Elgin, Texas, died Friday, July 26, 2024. He was born April 1,
1981, in Austin to Michael and Deborah (Yezak) Currey. He graduated from Elgin High School
in1999 and from Texas State University with a bachelor’s degree in business
administration/management in 2005.
He will be remembered as a kind and generous person who was successful in providing support
and encouragement to others. He was family-oriented and cared very much for them. He
supported his friends and relatives during difficult times.
Matthew worked as an architectural consultant on major commercial-construction projects,
including universities, hospitals, schools, prisons and government buildings. He detailed jobs
and provided commercial building materials across the country.
He lived a quiet life and had a passion for sports, reading, intellectual conversation, hunting and
fishing. In his younger years, he played soccer and baseball. He enjoyed participating in these
sports with his brothers and being coached by his father. He enjoyed water sports such as
kayaking and wakeboarding. Kayak fishing with his father was always a cherished activity. He
was a regular at the gym, lifting weights and taking on new challenges. His competitiveness
inspired others.
Survivors include his parents; his brothers Daniel and his wife, Heather, of San Marcos, James
and his daughter, Cara, of Hutto, Caleb and Shelby of Austin, Gabriel of Elgin, and John Michael
of San Marcos.
Matthew's love will continue to live on in the hearts of all those who knew him and enjoyed his
company.
