The Elgin Lady Wildcats varsity softball team closed out their season with a 17-0 loss to East View Tuesday, April 15.
Elgin finished fifth in the district with a 10-17 overall record and a 5-7 mark in district play.
The Lady Wildcats were overwhelmed from the start, allowing four runs in the top of the first inning as the Patriots strung together three singles. Senior Gabriella Sandoval singled in the bottom half of the inning, but Elgin was unable to capitalize.
Both teams went scoreless in the second before East View added another run in the third on an RBI single, pushing the lead to 5-0. Elgin had a chance to respond in the bottom half, reaching first and second on back-to-back errors, but a strikeout and a fielder’s choice ended the threat.
The game unraveled in the fourth inning as the Patriots exploded for seven runs—two scoring on Elgin errors and the rest driven in with hits—making it 12-0. Elgin went down in order in the bottom half, and East View added five more runs in the fifth to seal the runrule victory. Elgin managed just two hits in the game.
Adriana Sandoval started in the circle, pitching 2 1/3 innings and allowing nine runs. Katelyn Anderson closed out the game, giving up eight runs while recording one strikeout.
